A PROCLAMATION
Whereas, ye olde village at Westfield on the banks of the Westfield River, settled in 1669, will present its 8th annual COLONIAL HARVEST DAY from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m on September 29. in the center of town, adjacent to the town green in celebration of its rich and celebrated history ; and
Whereas, the 2012 Colonial Harvest Day committee has put their well-worn fingers to the proverbial grindstone to make this year’s event the best ever with several new features ; and
Whereas, YE OLDE PERFORMANCE STAGE will be headlined by BLACKSTONE VALLEY BLUEGRASS BAND, comprising four musicians from near ye village at Worcester, whose harmonies and fast but tasteful picking will make colonial audiences smile from 1:10 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. ; and
Whereas other performers like the PIONEER VALLEY FIDDLERS from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and WOODFORD WAY with KYLE MANGINI from 11:10 a.m. to 12:10 noon will make the village center ring with music ; and
Whereas, the 3rd annual CELEBRITY TOWN CRIER CONTEST from 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. will feature area celebrities competing for the honor of being Westfield’s official 2012 Town Crier ; and
Whereas, the first HARVEST HOEDOWN and FIDDLE CONTEST from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 pm will bring string players of every age and from all over the Commonwealth, who will compete for juried prizes ; and
Whereas, HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGES will take townspeople on a tour of the town Green and the new streets of the village ; and
Whereas, AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR RE-ENACTORS will recreate life in Colonial America ; and
Whereas, the Westfield Athenaeum will sponsor COLONIAL GAMES and CRAFTS for youngsters and the Friends of the Athenaeum USED BOOK SALE for booklovers of all ages ; and
Whereas, numerous ARTISTS and CRAFTERS will demonstrate their incomparable skills and village organizations will sponsor COMMUNITY TABLES with harvest merchandise ; and
Whereas, Court Street will be lined with stalls from which VENDORS will sell quality crafts, delicious VICTUALS including delectable consumables like colonial hot dogs, harvest hamburgers, soups, stews and apple pies ; and
Whereas, the COLONIAL HARVEST DAY BEER GARDEN and the first COLONIAL WINE TOUR will offer thirsty gentlemen and ladies an assortment of delicious microbrews, including WOW’s special Colonial Harvest Day Ale, brewed by BBC, ye olde Berkshire Brewing Company ; and
Whereas, the FUTURE FUND of WESTFIELD BANK has generously bestowed a grant for its production ; and
Whereas, our community sponsors have also offered gracious financial support and encouragement for all Colonial Harvest Day happenings ; and
Now, Therefore, Be It RESOLVED, that Colonial Harvest Day on the Saturday, the 29th day of September from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm, be recognized as a day when townsfolk WILL celebrate the rich history of ye village at Westfield, the contributions of its city fathers, merchants, businesses and fruitful and diverse community of talented citizenry ; and
Be It Further RESOLVED, that should inclement weather rain on our continental parade, Colonial Harvest Day will take place on the following day, Sunday, the 30th day of September from 10:00am to 6:30 pm.
